Togo have only previously tried to qualify for the World Cup on six occasions and not once had they come close to making it to the finals.The country's football federation was not founded until 1960 and Togo only became affiliated to Fifa two years later.Though Togo were eligible for the 1966 World Cup in England, they did not enter until the 1974 renewal when they lost to eventual finalists Zaire.Togo pulled out of the 1986 and 1990 qualification campaigns, while they made little impact in the subsequent three programmes.
